In Memory of the Incredible Sarah Burke

We are always looking for interesting topics related to trampolines and trampolining to share with you, our readers.  One crossed our path today that we just had to share.  We won’t put the whole thing in word for word, but we will share some of the highlights here for you.  This is an article used from Sportsnet and is about the Incredible Sarah Burke.

The reason this article caught our attention was because of her training using the trampoline.

“She trained relentlessly, spending hours on a trampoline, memorizing the path of her body flipping through the air. At 29, the oldest pro in her sport, Sarah was still its finest athlete.”

“Growing up, Sarah dreamed of winning an Olympic medal. As a professional skier, she lobbied for years to have superpipe skiing included in the Olympics (the superpipe is almost seven metres high, while most halfpipes reach just over four metres). Last year, her efforts finally paid off when it was announced that the event would be featured in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi. Though she would have been 31, she was still the gold medal favourite.”

If you have your ears tuned to the sporting world at all, you will have heard about Sarah Burke, the Canadian X-Games and World Cup athlete in the sport of freeskiing who passed away last month after a crash during a ritual training run.

The entire article is a lovely tribute to her, so we would recommend reading it.  You can find the whole thing here.

It is sad to lose a role model and someone as passionate about what they do as Sarah Burke, but she has left a legacy to be followed.  Don’t be afraid of trying, and don’t be afraid of living, would be her message.

While this post is not directly about trampolining, it is about sport, and passion and life.  These are things that none of us, no matter what we do in life, should never take for granted.

Remember, stay safe and have fun!
